I am a huge fan of article marketing. I have been using it for years and I know that it works extremely well. I often run into people who say they have been writing articles but have yet to make a sale. I always ask to look at some of their articles so I can help them out. And when I do, I immediately see why their articles aren’t generating any sales. Here a the 4 most common reasons.

Reason #1 – They Aren’t Using Keywords In Their Title – I know you want to be all fancy and use creative titles in your article title, but truthfully, if you want traffic you need to stick with the keywords that your potential customers are typing into the search engines. Use Google’s free keyword tool or download the free version of traffic travis and do your keyword research. If you want people reading your articles use keywords in the title.

Reason #2 – Your Sending Readers To An Unrelated Site – The other day I was looking at an article and the title of the article was related to helping people get their lost love back. I was looking at the article to see what product was being promoted so I really didn’t read the article I just scrolled down to the bottom to see where the link was pointing.

To my surprise it was pointing to a site about bankruptcy. I thought maybe it was a mistake, so I clicked on the authors name and looked at about 4 more of his articles. All had titles relating to getting a lover back, and all pointed to completely unrelated sites. I can pretty much guarantee he isn’t making very much money, if any at all. The crazy thing is that this is not all that uncommon. I see it happen all the time. Usually people try to use highly profitable keywords to get people to read their article and then click on their unrelated link.

What they fail to realize is that it will never work. No one is going to visit a bankruptcy site when they are looking for information about getting their ex back. Don’t waste your time trying to trick readers. Send them to a site that is directly related to the topic of your article.

Reason #3 – Your Not Writing Enough Articles – I am often amazed at people when they say article marketing doesn’t work after only writing 5 articles. I mean seriously, give me a break. Do you really think you are going to get a ton of traffic and see multiple sales off of just 5 articles? I’m not saying its impossible, but I am saying it is highly unlikely. You need to pump out as many quality articles as you can. If you pump out 50 to 100 articles and you still aren’t making any sales, then you are either not writing very good articles or you are promoting a crappy product.

I know that sounds like a lot of articles but if you are going to do it then you really need to give it your all. No half stepping. Eventually you will be able to stop writing articles and still be making money. I currently still get sales from articles I wrote over 3 years ago. Now thats what I call a GREAT return on investment.

Reason #4 – You Are Not Submitting Your Articles To Enough Places – Its not enough just to submit your articles to one or two article directories. You really should try to get them posted on at least the top 10 directories. I know that is very time consuming but it will pay off. I am actually trying out a new software right now that submits to the top 20 to 30 article directories.

Before I tell you about it I want to try it out to make sure it continues to deliver. I have tried many submitters and none of them have delivered. But so far, I can honestly say this one works like a charm. Once I test it out some more I will create a video and tell you all about it.

I was just sitting here watching Joel Osteen and he said something that really struck me. He said “You are what you believe.” That is so powerful. Many times in life we don’t go as far as we would like to simply because we don’t believe in ourselves. When it comes to being a successful affiliate marketer there are 3 very simple things for you to keep in mind.

1) Honesty and Integrity – This is first and foremost. Never promote a product just because it has a high payout. Make sure the product actually delivers some sort of value. If you promote a bunch of crap to your list, you won’t have one for very long. Put the needs of your customers first. Always operate with honesty and integrity and you will never have a problem making money.

2) Don’t be lazy – If you want to be successful you will have to do some work. If you are lazy and BS all the time, you will never be successful. PERIOD!

3) Be Consistent – Don’t just write one article or create one video and then do nothing else. To be successful you must be consistent. Take time every day to work on your business. If you are inconsistent your results will be inconsistent. You will make a sale here and a sale there. So be consistent so you can build a very profitable online business.

I was on a webinar today with Mike Litman and he said some really good stuff about why people are in a rut and not living up to their true potential. It was so good, that I rushed right over to my blog to share it with you.  I personally have been making money online for about 5 years. I tried everything from Ebay to creating my own product.  And guess what? I was never really that successful with anything. Do you know why? Because I was more focused on getting everything perfect, then I was with just getting things going.

When it comes to making money online, its not about getting things perfect, its about getting the ball rolling. As Mike Litman says “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.” That is such a powerful quote.

So today I challenge you to do just one thing that will move you closer to making your first sale online. If its writing an article, then do that. If its creating a video, then do that. Whatever it is. JUST DO IT! Don’t try to make it perfect. Just get it done and get it posted online. As you continue to make progress you will get better and better at whatever it is you are trying to do.  But you will never make a dime if you never get started.

Let me leave you with another quote Mike said and that is “Focus on the reward, and not the process.” Let it sink in. I promise you it will change your life.

A few days ago I told you that the first thing you need to do before you can start making money in affiliate marketing is one, sign up with clickbank and two, pick a product. If you did not read that post please do so right now. Read Part 1

Now, hopefully you have signed up with clickbank and picked a product you want to promote. The next thing you need to do is set up a simple blog where you can send traffic to. All you need to do is go to blogger and set up a free blog. Try to make the name of the blog something related to the product you are promoting. For example, if you are promoting a product that has to do with losing weight make the name of your blog something like “weight loss made simple” or “easy weight loss plan”.  If you are promoting a product that has to do with attracting women name it something like “attract any woman you want today”. The goal is to use keywords in your blog address. Keywords are extremely important. We will discuss them in detail in part 3.  The reason you want to set up a blog is so you can have somewhere visitors can go to, to get more information about the product you are promoting and hopefully make a purchase.

Today is a very short lesson. Go to blogger and set up your free blog right now. Remember to use keywords in the name of your blog. In the next post I will discuss keywords and article marketing.  So go set your blog up and in the next lesson we will start discussing the content you need to put on your new blog.
